About the Tulp Festival Amsterdam

The initiator of the Tulp Festival, Saskia Albrecht, is a landscape architect and has, in collaboration with Museum van Loon, been organising the Open Garden days for over ten years now. A couple of years ago, the idea originated to organise a tulip weekend. Amsterdam is supposed to be the city of tulips, though it is hardly visible in the public spaces of the city. After Saskia Albrecht visited the tulip festival in Istanbul – its municipality plants 14 million tulips each year - she came up with the idea to organise a similar festival in Amsterdam during the month of April, including approximately 820.000 tulips, one tulip for every citizen of Amsterdam.
